Privacy Policy
SnackLog is made by Norwell Systems LLC. This policy describes the data the app handles, where that data is kept, how long it is kept, and how you can remove it. SnackLog shows no advertising, uses no analytics service, does not sell personal data, and does not use your data to train any model.
Summary
Your entries, chat history, targets and settings are stored on your iPhone and in your private iCloud database. We do not have access to them.
When you send a message in the Log, the text and any photos in that message, together with the trackables you have switched on, the names of your saved items and your unit preferences, are sent to our server and then to Anthropic, which returns the entry. We do not keep that content. Anthropic does not use it to train its models.
Our server keeps your Sign in with Apple identifier, the email address Apple shares with us, your plan, and a monthly count of AI logs.
You can delete your account from Settings in the app. The server record is removed at once. Data in your iCloud is yours and can be removed from the app or from iCloud settings.
Information we collect
Account
When you sign in with Apple we receive a user identifier and the email address you chose to share, which may be Apple's private relay address. We store these on our server (Cloudflare D1, United States) so that we can recognise your account across devices, apply the free allowance and act on a deletion request.
Plan and usage
We store whether your account is on the free plan or SnackLog Plus, and a count of AI logs for the current month. Subscription status reaches us from RevenueCat, keyed to an anonymous identifier.
Technical logs
For each request to our server we keep a request id, the entry type, token counts, latency and the outcome for 90 days. These logs never contain the text or photos you sent.
Your food log
Entries, chat messages, attached photos, saved items, targets, trackables, units and reminders are stored on your iPhone and in your private iCloud database through CloudKit. Apple's iCloud terms govern that storage. We cannot read it.
Health
If you turn on the Apple Health switch, SnackLog writes the calories, macronutrients, electrolytes and water you log to Health on your iPhone. We do not read Health data, do not send it to our server, and do not use it for advertising or share it with anyone. Deleting an entry in SnackLog removes it from Health.
How the AI step works
SnackLog uses Claude, a model operated by Anthropic, to read what you typed, dictated or photographed and return a structured entry. The app explains this before your first AI log and asks for your agreement. Each request contains only what is needed for that entry. Under Anthropic's API terms, inputs and outputs are not used to train Anthropic's models and are retained only for abuse monitoring under Anthropic's policy. When a lookup is needed, the model may query the USDA FoodData Central database, which receives the food name and nothing about you, or run a web search through Anthropic for a restaurant's published nutrition page, where the query is the food item.
Dictation runs on your iPhone using Apple's speech framework, and audio does not leave the device. Barcode scanning runs on your iPhone using Apple's Vision framework, and only the decoded number is included in your message.
Service providers
| Apple Inc. | Sign in with Apple, iCloud and CloudKit sync, App Store purchases, Health on the device, on-device speech and vision |
| Anthropic, PBC | Reads the content of a log message and returns the entry |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Hosts our server, database and this website |
| U.S. Department of Agriculture | FoodData Central lookups by food name. No personal data is sent |
Retention
Entries remain until you delete them. Chat transcripts are kept for 30 days on your device and in iCloud and are then removed automatically; the entries they produced remain. The server record (identifier, email, plan and usage) is kept while your account exists and is deleted with the account. Technical logs are kept for 90 days.
Your rights and choices
You can delete your account from Settings. The server record is removed immediately and the sign-in is revoked with Apple. From the same screen you can remove the app's iCloud data; you can also do that from iCloud settings on your device.
You can export every entry as a CSV file from Settings.
Manual entry and saved items do not involve the model. If you prefer not to use AI logging, use those instead.
You can hide your email address when you sign in with Apple. We only receive what Apple forwards.
If you live in California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another place with privacy law, you may ask us to access, correct, delete or export your data, or to object to processing, by writing to privacy@snacklog.app. We answer within 30 days. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Children
SnackLog is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our server and service providers operate in the United States. If you use SnackLog from elsewhere, your data is processed there under the safeguards in our providers' terms.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Server data is encrypted at rest by Cloudflare. API keys are held only in server secrets and are never in the app. Access to the server is limited to the people who operate SnackLog.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the app shows the new version before your next AI log and this page shows the new effective date.
